Christopher Cairns’ studio, an 8,000 square-foot former fire station in Havertown, Pennsylvania, houses over 100 handmade bronze and plaster sculptures. Some are finished, while others are ongoing works. Curated by the artist to display a large number of his sculptures, the studio documents over 40 years of his career. A professor emeritus at Haverford college, he trains other artists in his specialist sculptural techniques and classical theoretical practices. Classical music, a strong influence in Cairns’ work, inspires both his practice and his subjects…..life, death, drama and sacrifice.
