PICTURE BERLIN kicks off it’s 5th year beginning July 7. In addition to a festival with a full list of summer events and activies, they will also present a 6-week summer program designed for emerging artists working in contemporary art and photography. The ‘Summer Session’ is a newly conceived program with over 15 lectures by Berlin based artists, one-on-one discussions with over 10 international artists and curators, multiple exhibitions, group meals and work reviews, studio visits, a curatorial marathon, and choreographed artist walks.

The program begins with an intensive 10-hour artist walk ‘In Search of the Miraculous’ that includes 6 different walks with 7 different artists in various neighborhoods throughout the city.
The city of Berlin shapes the program and serves as a springboard into the greater European art scene.

PICTURE BERLIN was founded in 2009 and continues to be run by artists as a hybrid program merging the concentrated studio practice of an artist residency with the support of the art academy. Since 2012, PICTURE BERLIN has been in collaboration with tête, a project space in Mitte that will host the artist talks, which are open to the public.

The goal of PICTURE BERLIN is to help artists find a way in a city that might be foreign to most and also to encourage interplay with the international art community.

The PICTURE BERLIN festival in August will showcase works-in-progress and final exhibitions by participating artists.
