Opened in September 2016, the ZKR Centre for Art and Public Space in Schloss Biesdorf uniquely displays art from the former GDR alongside contemporary art. Frequent artist talks, presentations and concerts accompany the exhibitions and allow for reflections on the work and a broader engagement with current discourse.
The first exhibition, ‘Project Landscape’, was curated by Katja Aßmann in collaboration with the art archive Beeskow and external curators. It features nine contemporary artists such as Michael Sailstorfer, Janet Laurence, and Martin Kaltwasser who will also be included in the International Garden Show 2017 alongside over 20 artists who addressed themes of landscape in the former GDR. The title of the exhibition, ‘Project Landscape’, takes an active position in regards to the idea of landscape; as well as presenting landscape as an artistic subject, the exhibition considers aspects of societal responsibility, environmental protection and social function present in landscape management.
