Red Bull Arts Detroit is growing its contemporary arts program in an effort to enrich the local art community through curating and supporting emerging or established artists. Starting in 2019, Red Bull Arts Detroit will join Red Bull Arts New York to expand its ongoing Artist Residency Program by adding three new programs. Artists, curators and writers can now apply for the artist-in-residence program, a visiting curator fellowship, visiting writer fellowship or the ongoing micro-grant program.
The artist-in-residence program will cover transportation to Detroit, provide on-site living accommodations, a 14,000-square-foot studio space, and a US$12,000 stipend. All participating artists will also be included in a group exhibition at the end of the three-month period.
Applicants who receive the Visiting Writer Fellowship will travel to Detroit twice over the course of two months to develop a piece of writing and a public program. The cost of travel and accommodations will be covered, in addition to a US$2,000 stipend.
The Visiting Curator Fellowship is aimed at deepening the discourse between the local and international art community. The recipient is provided with ten monthly visits and the tools to execute a contemporary art exhibition in Detroit, as well as a US$10,000 stipend.
The micro-grants for local artists are given on a rolling basis and collectively represent Red Bull Arts Detroit’s dedication to the local community. Winners receive US$1,000 grants as well as career counseling from Red Bull Arts Detroit staff and advisors.
