Dutch Art Institute’s Roaming Academy Comes to Berlin

May 17, 2019

The Dutch Art Institute (DAI) announces ‘Roaming Assembly #24 Opaque Justice: A Dialectics Of Rerouting’ and ‘Aeroponic Acts: Growing Roots in Air’ – two public events convened by Rana Hamadeh and Giulia Crispiani, respectively, which investigate the possibility of desiring and practicing an ethics of “relation”, where capture never holds. In reference to Édouard Glissant’s ‘Poetics of Relation’ (1990), the assembly attempts to think an ethics of justice that is neither inscribed in, nor predicated upon, structures of property and ownership. Predicating that justice – under capitalism – can only be understood through the modality of measure; this assembly asks whether it is possible at all, under the same conditions, to desire justice differently?

Taking place at silent green Kulturquartier, the first edition of the extended series of conversations around issues of justice and desire, taking place on Sunday the 19th, will include: Ramon Amaro, Layal Ftouni, Ayesha Hameed, Sebastian De Line, Renée Ridgway, Walter books & DAI’s ‘Justice Economy: The Dramaturgy of Debt and Indebtedness Factory’ participants.

In the following days, ‘Aeroponic Acts’ – a 3-day marathon assembled by writer, artist (and DAI alumna 2017) Giulia Crispiani – presents 28 live acts taking the form of performances, talks, performance-lectures, screenings, readings and more. Free in both content and format, each presenter begins their performance with a key question. Presenters are DAI 2019 graduates: Olivia Abächerli, Clara Amaral, Joannie Baumgärtner, Matthieu Blond, Ciprian Burete, Sara Cattin, Livio Casanova, Bethany Crawford, Teresa Distelberger, Lucie Draai, Vinita Gatne, Lukas Malte Hoffmann, Irati Irulegui Otermin, Samantha McCulloch, Dina Mohamed, Sofia Montenegro, Yen Noh, Edel O’Reilly, Eric Peter, Elien Ronse, Clara Saito, Karina Sarkissova, Jasmin Schädler, Zoe Scoglio, Leeron Tur-Kaspa, Duruo Wang, Ciarán Wood and Polly Wright.
