The XR Open Call 2024 is open to individuals and teams in Berlin from visual arts, music, literature, performing arts, design, photography and video art. The organizers are looking for a strong artistic concept in connection with augmented, mixed or virtual reality. This is the second of three Open Calls of the Aurora XR School for Artists. There will be an expanded focus on extended reality for artists with and without previous knowledge.
The fellowship is geared towards practitioners with interests in topics pertaining to interaction with avatars beyond mere observation, optionally in combination with artificial intelligence, connection of mixed and virtual reality with the Oculus Quest 2 + 3 and Quest Pro, interactive storytelling, (Real-time) data visualization, audience as creators / co-creation and shared cultural experience. The main target group is the independent culture scene in Berlin and the jury will select one concept to be implemented during a fellowship of several months at HTW Berlin.
The fellowship will include support in fine-tuning the concept for subsequent development, insight and experience in agile XR development methods. Along with close collaboration with the interdisciplinary XR expert team from XR development, digital media production and cultural studies. Premises at the Research Center for Culture and Computer Science of HTW Berlin, the ability to use state-of-the-art equipment (hardware/software) as well as XR Art & Networking 2025 as a public platform for presentation of the XR project after completion of the collaboration.
Applicants are required to have basic knowledge in XR technologies, openness for interdisciplinary collaboration, commitment to continuous regular meetings during XR development and independent work phases. Additionally, experience in interdisciplinary cultural projects is desirable.
The application must be in German or English, and decisions will be made at the beginning of April 2024 and the selected team will be notified by email.
