Künstlerhof Frohnau (KHF) and the Department of Art and History Reinickendorf welcome submissions for the Ruckhaberle Award 2024/25, granted for the sixth time in commemoration of the artist, curator and cultural politician Dieter Ruckhaberle. It is aimed at artists living in Germany who, through their work, find convincing ways to reveal complex or overlooked societal connections and thus contribute to a nuanced understanding of our times. Previous recipients of the award include Nafis Fatollahzadeh, Uliana Bychenkova & Anna Scherbyna, Surya Gied, Annette Frick and Luiza Prado.
The prize includes a two-month residency in the spacious living studio of KHF between May and July 2025, a € 2,000 prize, up to €2,000 for creating a publication (as an artist’s book in risograph printing, audio or data carrier, website, etc.), and reimbursement of travel expenses up to €200.
Professional visual artists living in Germany, regardless of age, origin or artistic medium, are invited to apply. The call deliberately sets no media restrictions and is explicitly open to interdisciplinary artistic practices and artist groups. Partners and/or children are welcome during the residency.
In the first stage of the award process, a jury will nominate 5–7 artistic positions from the submitted applications. Each will be presented with a work in a shortlist exhibition at GalerieETAGE in Museum Reinickendorf that will take place from December 2024 to March 2025. The nominees will be notified by mid-September 2024, and will receive a participation fee of € 800. In the second stage, the winner of the Ruckhaberle Award will be announced within the shortlist exhibition.
