Open Call for Human Machine Fellowship

June 25, 2024

The JUNGE AKADEMIE, in partnership with VISIT (the artist-in-residence program of the E.ON Stiftung) and E-WERK Luckenwalde, is offering four fully funded fellowships for international artists in 2024 and 2025. These fellowships support projects at the intersection of art, science and ecology on the theme of the human-machine.

Each fellow will receive €20,000 for the production costs of a new project, which may include research, development, travel and material costs. From April 1st to June 30th, 2025, three artists will have access to production and studio spaces at E-WERK Luckenwalde, while one fellowship will take place at Akademie der Künste, Berlin. Joint events will be planned at the Akademie der Künste and E-WERK, culminating in an exhibition at E-WERK Luckenwalde in autumn 2025 for all fellows from 2023 to 2025.

The ‘Human Machine’ program welcomes applications from international emerging artists who work with or address ideas surrounding digital technologies, the Anthropocene and/or Artificial Intelligence in the broadest sense. The program seeks artists who challenge the Western narrative of “progress” and problematic dualisms of “natural” and “artificial,” offering new ideas, patterns, narrations and approaches to a world with machines. Artists who explore urgent aspects of today’s societies and the planet, and transforming their research into aesthetically compelling forms, are encouraged to apply.

The call particularly encourages applications from diasporic artists affected by the poly-crisis who need a safe and nurturing opportunity to propel their careers.
