Open Call for transmediale 2025 Residencies

Sept. 11, 2024

In collaboration with three international and one local partner, transmediale welcomes applications for its 2025 residency program. Researchers, artists, theorists, practitioners and activists have the opportunity to take part in two-month hybrid residencies, which will take place remotely and on-site at transmediale studio in Berlin between May and July 2025. As a core component of transmediale’s activities, this program aims to foster more sustainable practices and cultivate long-term relationships, emphasizing an approach that goes beyond output-oriented presentations.

The residencies aim to foster further research on existing projects or development of new projects in fields of media studies, science and technology studies, media art and theory, art criticism or digital art and moving image practices. Each resident will receive a monthly stipend, along with additional support for housing in Berlin (to be arranged individually), as well as travel and accommodation for the festival. Four different types of residencies are available, each with specific requirements.

The Digital Art Residency, in collaboration with the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, will be awarded for the third time to two individuals working in the fields of digital art practices, design, sound or media theory. Eligible applicants must either hold Swiss nationality or have permanent residency in Switzerland and be well-established within the Swiss cultural scene.

In collaboration with the Arts Council Korea, transmediale presents the first edition of a new residency. It will be awarded to one individual of Korean nationality, whether based in Korea or abroad, who works in the fields of digital art and moving image practices, design, sound or media theory.

In the 13th edition of the collaboration between transmediale and the Universität der Künste Berlin, one Berlin-based individual working in the fields of digital art and moving image practices, design, sound or media theory will be awarded a residency. The call is open to all formats, with a focus on research-based practices.

For the third time, transmediale presents a residency in partnership with the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage of Chile and DIRAC, Chile. It will be awarded to one Chilean or Chile-based artist working in the fields of art, science, new media and technology.
