OPEN CALL // Hardbakka 2016: Memento Mori

The Hardbakka Ruins project is an annual site-specific art workshop, focusing this year on architectural ruins of military and industrial structures within Bergen, Norway. The project is now opening applications for participants who wish to apply for its 4th annual workshop, where they will have the opportunity to create work in reaction to the death of industrial architecture within several sites in Bergen. Under the title Memento Mori, the importance of architectural ruins, political or social will be examined in detail as well as their place not only as metaphorical relics of the past but also as milestones of anthropological development.

The week-long workshop, which will take place from June 25th-July 4th 2016, welcomes visual artists of all backgrounds, theorists, geographers, historians and any other relevant practitioners. The workshop will conclude in a collaborative exhibition which will take place in Bergen. Regular open discussions regarding the changing face of Bergen’s landscape and its relation to shifts in capitalism, economy and history will also take place.

Additional Info

The course is limited to fifteen places and is open to applicants of all nationalities, professionals or students. There is no fee required to apply, but participants are required to cover their own travel expenses. Additional funding for exhibition materials will be available. Application deadline is April 1st, 2016.
