Weißensee Academy of Art is introducing a foundation class specifically created for refugees, which will be funded by the Berlin Senator for Education, Youth and Science during their coming summer semester. The course, directed by Professor Ulf Aminde will enable applicants to gain the academic foundations required to apply for art schools within Germany. Specifically designed for refugees who either sought to apply for art school, wanted to progress to a degree programme or had already begun working towards a degree, the foundation course offers the renewed opportunity to use the academy’s infrastructure, learn within a renowned environment and rebuild lost artifacts, portfolios of previous works or important documents which may be required for further applications.
The course, lasting either one or two semesters, provides applicants with the opportunity to build new networks in and outside of the course and amongst other students, as well as offering internal counsel from the Office of Student Affairs, to help with any social or academic issues that they may encounter. All participants will be given the status of visiting students, which means that they will not encounter any fees.
