Olympus is once again launching their ‘PERSPECTIVE PLAYGROUND’ in Berlin, offering exhibition visitors the opportunity to photographically explore interactive art installations at Kraftwerk Berlin from September 1st to 24th. The PLAYGROUND opened its doors for the first time in 2013 and since then 15 other playgrounds followed as well as a photographic art path in Zingst.

Every exhibition organized in Germany, France, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Spain and Denmark has been conceptualized individually. This year, the Olympus PERSPECTIVE PLAYGROUND curator Leigh Sachwitz invites visitors to explore the interactive artworks of artists Thilo Frank, flora&faunavisions, Xaver Hirsch, Adam Scales + Ari + Pierre Berthelomeau, Poetic Kinetics, Gabriel Pulecio, Quintessenz and Liz West.
UK artist Liz West creates vivid environments that mix luminous colour and radiant light. Working across a variety of mediums, West is interested in exploring how sensory phenomena can invoke psychological and physical responses that tap into our own deeply entrenched relationships to colour. In her piece ‘Our Colour Reflection’ for PERSPECTIVE PLAYGROUND, she creates a conversation between the viewer and the setting using more than 765 mirrors made of coloured acrylic. There are 15 colours in all, and the mirrors with different diameters are set at different heights, so that they reflect and reveal parts of the architecture that would otherwise be invisible, and project colour up into the interior.

The work ‘Vertical Skip’ is a light sculpture by Berlin-based artist Thilo Frank, consisting of a light cable suspended from the ceiling. Rotating around its own axis, the light cable creates a three-dimensional shape in the dark room. Built-in sensors ensure that the speed changes as movements in the room are registered. When someone approaches the sculpture, the rhythm changes. If more people are in the room at the same time, it takes a certain degree of navigation and coordination to agree on the right movement and speed. The sculpture then becomes a poetic visualisation of this cooperation.
Artist Gabriel Pulecio, who lives and works in New York, creates works at the intersection between art, technology and motion design. For the past two years, Gabriel has been focusing his digital expertise on creating interactive sculptures and non-linear installations that push the boundaries between digital and physical mediums. For the PERSPECTIVE PLAYGROUND, he will present ‘Infinity (Tiles of Virtual Space)’, an interactive immersive installation that transforms a finite space into a vast, endless expansion using light and sound. When entering the installation, the tiles beneath trigger animations expanding from the individual that move up the wall and trails of light are created that become reflected several times in the mirrored four-wall structure: to infinity.

The range of pieces on display create the perfect playground for exploring and sparking new interactions with artworks. Equipped with an OM-D or an Olympus PEN camera, visitors to this year’s free event at Kraftwerk are invited to photograph the exhibited works and to take home the storage card with photos as a memento.
