There are two open calls for young artists and curators from the cities of Berlin and Lagos, Nigeria to apply for an exchange residency. Two young artists and curators living in Berlin will be offered six-week stays in Lagos, while one artist or curator from Lagos will reside in Berlin for three months. The three participating artists and curators will be connected throughout the program and have the opportunity to meet each other. The program will begin in September 2018.
The project, which was initiated in 2015 and has been renewed and expanded since then, is a cooperation between Goethe-Institut Nigeria and Arthouse Foundation in Lagos; the Center for Art and Urbanistics (ZK/U), SAVVY Contemporary, Galerie Wedding – Space for Contemporary Art, and the Office of Art and Culture in Berlin. Since its beginning, the exchange program has aimed to deepen the relationship between Germany and Nigeria and also act an opportunity for a change in perspective. In addition to standard application materials, applicants should develop a project proposal in relation the residency’s theme “unsustainable privileges”.
