As a joint venture between the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Austin and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, the St. Elmo Arts Residency offers one fellowship each academic year to a recent MFA artist in painting, drawing, print, photo, sculpture or multimedia. The applications for this year’s residency, which will begin in August, are now open to artists who graduated from an MFA program in Fall 2017 or Spring 2018. Artists who graduated prior to Fall 2017 are ineligible.
The recipient of the fellowship will have 24-hour access to a private 1,800-square-foot studio, private housing in the St. Elmo district of Austin that can also accommodate the fellow’s partner and a $30,000 stipend. The fellow is also asked to teach part-time at UT Austin (one class per semester) and give one workshop per semester at the Wildflower Center. The invited fellow will be able to present a solo exhibition within the Wildflower Center’s beautifully restored 19th century carriage house gallery.
