In cooperation with the Vienna Art Week 2019, studio das weisse haus is announcing a three-week residency (November 08–November 28, 2019) for an aspiring author, following the aim to introduce him/her to the Viennese art scene. With approximately 200 events hosted by 70 program partners, the Vienna Art Week offers boundless opportunities to explore the city’s vibrant art scene between November 15th to 22nd, 2019. Program highlights include exhibition openings, performances, exclusive tours, as well as talks, panels and the popular Open Studio Day.
Studio das weisse haus is a residence and studio program for local and international artists, curators/theorists and journalists. It was founded in 2013 by Alexandra Grausam, and focuses its activities on the production process and its conditions. Precisely because art journalism and criticism are one of the key features in the development of contemporary art, studio das weisse haus offers a residency program for international art journalists and critics to support their activities. By means of this program, we aim to strengthen an international exchange of critical thoughts and experiences from diverse national and regional art scenes.
During the residency, studio das weisse haus offers a rent-free accommodation (studio with bathroom and kitchenette); a rent-free working space; a one-time contribution to travel expenses up to 200 Euro for traveling within Europe; an allowance of 300 Euro to cover basic living costs; the possibility to organize a public discussion within the monthly series ‘Wednesday with…’ on November 20th at 7 pm; and the possibility to write an article about the current exhibition or an interview with one of our studio artists, which will be published on their homepage.
Vienna Art Week offers free access to all VAW venues and activities during the festival, on-site guidance for the festival’s projects and activities, and the possibility to write three blog posts on this years’ theme “Making Truth”. Each article is rewarded with a fee of 100 Euro and will be published on the website.
This Call for Proposals is solely addressed to authors based in Europe with excellent German and/or English skills. Applicants may work as authors and journalists or as curators and theorists with a strong focus on contemporary art.
