The Research Group Arts Education at Amsterdam University of the Arts is calling for contributions to a new book filled with unique artistic assignments. Led by Emiel Heijnen and Melissa Bremmer, the heads of the Research Group Arts Education, the open call is asking for artists, musicians, designers, theatre-makers, dancers, and art teachers to submit to the project.
Contributors are asked to send a maximum of three of their best, most challenging art assignments before October 1, 2019. A committee will make a definitive selection of the contributions on November 1, 2019, at the latest, based on the quality, originality and diversity of the contributions and practices represented by the participants. If accepted, you will be supported editorially in order to prepare your contribution for publication. Successful applicants will have their assignments published by Valiz and will receive two copies of the book. Research Group Arts Education offers a platform to make your ideas and work known and your original assignment will be amongst those of other international artists and art teachers.
The ‘Wicked Arts Assignments’ book itself is described as visually enticing with the intention of offering inspiration for original and contrary lessons that reflect the themes, ways of working and concepts from international art and educational practices. Some examples of art assignments they are looking for include ‘Let someone copy your work. Destroy the original’ by Yoko Ono, as well as ‘Design a 22nd Century survival suit’ by Gabriela Acosta Camacho, Tamar Clasquin and Marja Reniers. In addition to the descriptions of the 100 assignments, the book will also contain a theoretical framework in which Heijnen, Bremmer and others will discuss educational design and strategies for making challenging art assignments.
