With David Bowie’s pioneering album ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’ (1972), came the birth of Bowie’s glitter-clad alter ego Ziggy Stardust. The boundary-pushing, androgynous character launched the soft-spoken Londoner into worldwide fame, making him one of the most influential figures in modern musical history.
The recently published Taschen tome, ‘The Rise of David Bowie 1972-73’, takes an in-depth look into this hugely significant era of Bowie’s career, through the compilation of spectacular stage shots, as well as intimate back-stage portraits. This collection, featuring roughly 50 percent previously unpublished images, is a tribute from Bowie’s official photographer and creative partner, Mick Rock, who toured with Bowie extensively through these formative years.
