Though cafes and restaurants are opening their doors again, life has by no means gone back to normal. There are still numerous restrictions we have to keep in mind when meeting up with people outside of our households. Restaurants have to find creative ways to keep their staff safe and organise their spaces in such a way that ample distance is maintained between the guests. Limbo, a pop-up restaurant hosted and produced by Caique Tizzi at Eoin Moylan Studio, is an experiment in “social-distance friendly” restaurants. During the month of June, Limbo invites you to enjoy a five-course meal in its spacious studio, where shared dining is made possible with the appropriate measurements in place. Small tables are distributed across a large industrial hall, with limited seats and a maximum of two households per table. The five-course menu is changed every week according to what produce is available at that time, using seasonal ingredients from local producers.
Limbo will serve its food on ceramics by Jana Marlene Lippert, a Berlin-born Product Designer. Her ceramics and porcelain objects result from an experiment with different casting slips, colourful pigments and glazings, delicate drawings and interesting surfaces and shapes. The dining hall is decorated by artworks by Jonas Wendelin, who lives between Los Angeles and Berlin and currently has a solo exhibition at Dittrich & Schlechtriem. The combination of art space and off-site restaurant make for a unique dining experience.
There are still some spots left for the June 26th edition, and they’ve just added more dates for July (see below). As the Limbo pop-up announcement states: “We will always need to be sharing food, conversations and good wine with those who are close to us.” Humans will always adapt to make community possible, whatever the external circumstances may be.
