Foundwork, a platform aimed at introducing contemporary artists to a global art community, announces the jury and open call for the second annual Foundwork Artist Prize. This year, the prize is open to artists internationally and artists working in any media are eligible.
The honoree for the 2020 Foundwork Artist Prize will receive an unrestricted 10,000 Dollar grant and studio visits with each of the jurors who include distinguished curators, gallerists and artists. The honoree and three short-listed artists will also be featured in interviews as part of the Foundwork Dialogues program, to discuss their practices and motivations in their own words.
The prize furthers Foundwork’s broader purpose to support contemporary artists by enabling greater access between artists, curators and collaborators wherever they are located. Artists can create their own profiles and document their work on the Foundwork website, which serves as a focused, non-commercial space for curatorial research. In addition to the prize, Foundwork hosts the above-mentioned interview program, Dialogues, as well as a Guest Curators program where visiting curators, gallerists and others are invited to highlight artists on the platform. Program guests have included gallerist Shirley Morales of ltd los angeles, artist and educator Sharon Louden, and SPRING/BREAK Art Show directors Ambre Kelly and Andrew Gori, among others.
The jury for the 2020 Foundwork Artist Prize includes the following six distinguished curators, gallerists and artists: Natasha Ginwala, Associate Curator at Gropius Bau, Berlin, as well as Artistic Director for the upcoming 13th Gwangju Biennale; Anat Ebgi, owner and director of Anat Ebgi Gallery in Los Angeles, whose program has received widespread critical and institutional recognition for their represented artists; Kalup Linzy, video and performance artist who has received a plethora of awards recognizing his talent for working with themes of sexuality, community and human socialization; Humberto Moro, Deputy Director and Senior Curator at Museo Tamayo in Mexico City, as well as a curator for both EXPO Chicago and the SCAD Museum of Art; Rachel Adams, Chief Curator and Director of Programs for the Bemis Center of Contemporary Arts in Omaha, where she leads exhibition planning and helps direct the renowned residency program; and Michael Ruiz, Founder and Managing Director of Future Gallery in Berlin and Mexico City, whose forward-looking artists have exhibited at institutions such as The New Museum, New York, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, ZKM, Karlsruhe and Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam.
To be considered, artists will need to create a profile on the Foundwork platform, with at least five published artworks, by October 15th, 2020. Foundwork artist profiles have a monthly subscription of 4 USD with no long-term requirement, and are free for undergraduate or graduate art students. Artists can visit foundwork.art/signup to register and are welcome to contact Foundwork directly with any questions.
