Beginning this month, Red Bull, through its art funding initiative, will be awarding two 1,000 USD microgrants monthly to artists residing in the cities of the recently expanded Red Bull Arts Microgrant Program. While the program started in the immediate vicinity of Detroit, it has now expanded to include the following cities: Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Houston, Hudson Valley, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New Orleans, New York, Oakland, Philadelphia, Providence, San Antonio and St. Louis.
As a result of cancellation of in-person activities and reduced funding for art-related events, arts workers have experienced increased financial instability lately. These monthly microgrants hope to offer some financial solace for struggling artists. The awarded money aims to support artists and their local communities in their continued engagement with and contributions to the dialogue of contemporary issues and ideas. In addition to the economic value, awarded artists will also have a chance to collaborate with Red Bull Arts, sharing projects through their social media. Artists over 18 years of age are eligible to apply, and they must reside in one of the aforementioned US cities and be able to receive a taxable income. As applications are open on a rolling basis, those interested are encouraged to apply right away with a CV, resume, portfolio (1–4 works) and letter of purpose.
