Berlin Creatives Launch Artist Charity Aid Network (A.C.A.N.) to Support Diverse Causes

Sept. 4, 2020

The Artist Charity Aid Network (A.C.A.N.)—launched this summer by Kate Brown, Zuzanna Czebatul, Alexander Egger and Leon Eisermann—is a non-profit digital platform that connects artists with buyers and facilitates donations to various different charities. Every few weeks, five artworks, donated by the participating artists, are posted on the Instagram page of the project. Interested buyers can get in touch with A.C.A.N. and donate a sum to the charity of the artist’s choice. The buyer’s proof of donation secures the acquisition of the work, and buyers are welcome to donate anything above the asking price. Artworks from the first release—featuring artists Claude Eigan, Dennis Buck, George Rippon, Elif Saydan and Zuzanna Czebatul—sold within several hours, benefiting charities like Sea Watch, the Homeless Black Trans Women Fund, GLITS and the Martha P. Johnson Institute.

“We are hoping to build awareness and support for a true diversity of causes that is seeded by artists and fertilized by buyers,” explain A.C.A.N.’s creators. After the second release sold out as well, the next round of artworks, ranging from watercolour to sculpture to collage works, will be launched next week. Donated works by Raul Walch, Mickael Marman, Anna Szaflarski, Sofia Duchovny and Mary-Audrey Ramirez will be for sale in Release 03 and, as a result, a new selection of charities will benefit from the sales. Among the artists’ chosen charities for the upcoming release are Women in Exile and Diving With a Purpose. The latter supports submerged heritage preservation and conservation projects worldwide with a focus on the African Diaspora.
