The City of Munich is now welcoming applications for residencies for artists, curators and writers, which take place at Villa Waldberta and at Ebenböckhaus. At each of these locations, art professionals will have the unique opportunity to cultivate their ideas, to engage in discourses with other guests and, in virtue of their institutional partnerships, to be introduced to the vibrant art and cultural scenes in Munich to build enduring work relationships.
Villa Waldberta
Villa Waldberta is located at the foothills of the Alps, surrounded by serene nature and just 45 minutes from the city center with the S-Bahn, a local commuter train. There are currently three open calls for residencies at Villa Waldberta: one is directed to any and all artists, another is for artists focusing on the specific theme of ‘Art, the City, and Democracy’ and the third is for a research and writing residency for poets, translators and critics. Artists and writers of all nationalities, religions, ages, sexual orientations and gender identities, as well as people with disabilities, who reside outside of the State of Bavaria are encouraged to apply. There are three different periods for the residencies: May 4 – July 28, 2021; August 4 – September 28, 2021; and November 3 – December 28, 2021. The writer is invited to be a resident during the period of May 4 – June 29, 2021. All selected residents will be accommodated in a private apartment equipped with all amenities in the Villa Waldberta and will receive a monthly stipend of €1,200. Artists will also be granted access to the art studio and given the chance to exhibit in the ‘Palmenhaus’.
Ebenböckhaus
Meanwhile, the Ebenböckhaus is situated within Munich, in the Pasing neighborhood. There is currently an open call for the curator-in-residence 2021 program, which will take place from October 5th – December 28th. Curators residing outside the State of Bavaria with at least two years of curatorial experience and three completed curatorial projects are invited to apply. Like the artist and writers’ residencies, applications are welcome from persons of all nationalities, religions, sexual identities, age groups and social backgrounds. The curator will be housed at Ebenböckhaus in a private apartment with a shared kitchen and bathroom and will receive a monthly stipend of €1,200 as well as a monthly transportation ticket for the city of Munich.
In addition, all residents of all disciplines will be reimbursed for their travel costs. The selection of residents will be made by a committee of representatives from the Department of Arts and Culture.
