Forecast has launched the open call for the sixth edition of its international mentorship program based in Berlin. The six mentors for the 2021–2022 edition are architect Tatiana Bilbao (Mexico), digital policy expert Francesca Bria (Italy), experimental singer and composer Sofia Jernberg (Sweden), cartoonist Ulli Lust (Austria), choreographer Mathilde Monnier (France), and artist Emeka Ogboh (Nigeria).
Until February 28th, artists and cultural practitioners working in a wide range of creative fields are invited to apply with projects that can benefit from the expertise of one of the mentors and their specific approach to material and knowledge production. In July 2021, the Forecast Forum will initially present projects by 18 selected nominees. Six final productions will then be presented at the Forecast Festival in April 2022. The Forum and the Festival both take place at radialsystem, Berlin.

Forecast sets itself apart in Berlin by inviting prominent architects, designers, curators and artists to participate in a mentorship program for talented individuals from all backgrounds. Forecast provides a transdisciplinary context for the fields in which these creative minds work and the questions they ask, and translates these into a concrete, tangible framework in the form of concerts, performances, installations and exhibitions. Previous mentors include Tulga Beyerle, Omer Fast, Holly Herndon, Koyo Kouoh, Okkyung Lee, Evgeny Morozov and Bas Princen. From 2015–2018, the Forecast Festival was hosted and co-produced by Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in Berlin.
For each edition, Forecast selects six mentors, all accomplished in their respective fields, who define the content and character of that year’s iteration. Eighteen selected nominees, three per mentor, will receive an artist fee o €2,000 and be invited to present their ideas at the Forecast Forum at radialsystem Berlin in July 2021. Following further exchanges between the mentors and their nominees, and the submission of revised project proposals, each mentor will choose one mentee in September 2021. All six selected mentees will receive a production budget of up to €8,000 and a licensing and artist fee of €6,000. They will have several months to produce their projects with the mentor’s support. In addition to ongoing mentoring, this period also includes a one-on-one work-stay with the mentor at an international partner institution. The final productions will be presented to the public at the Forecast Festival at radialsystem in April 2022.
