Rabbit Island is excited to announce their open call for applications for the 2021 Rabbit Island Residency Program. Founded in 2010, the goal of this residency is to challenge creative practices in a remote environment. There are three residencies available that will take place between mid-June and late-September 2021. With the support of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and continued contributions from donors, successful applicants will receive a $ 3200 award for participating.
The aim of the residency is to provide time and space for artists to examine creative practices in a wilderness environment. Rabbit Island encourages participants to engage with the locality and landscape, to respond to ideas about ecology, conservation, and sustainability. The residency enables artists to present commentaries, interpretations, and solutions for these issues of global relevance. The residency includes living and working on Rabbit Island for a 2–4 week period, being featured in the annual Rabbit Island publication, and having access to the amenities of the island.
The submission deadline is March 14th, 2021 at 11:59pm EST. A submission fee of $20 is necessary to apply. Apply by submitting a brief artist statement, project proposal and up to 6 work samples.
