Turkey’s pioneering international photography event 212 Photography Istanbul returns to showcase and discover new emerging photographers at various venues across Asia and Europe. The 212 Photography Competition is organized by 212 Photography Istanbul and will run from October 1st to 11th. The competition is in its fourth year and has extended its closing date to September 17th, due to receiving a high volume of applications.
212 Photography Istanbul is an annual cultural and educational international photography event, featuring an array of exhibits, workshops, film screenings, lecture/panels, portfolio reviews and more. The festival expands across Istanbul and includes numerous venues both on the Asian and European sides, among which there are important historical and cultural heritage buildings and cultural centers. The 10-day long event offers an array of events and provides an inclusive space for ideas and perspectives to mix without prejudice and better interrogate social, artistic and cultural phenomena from the region and around the world.
Every year, the competition is judged by a jury of international, renowned experts. This year it will consist of Photo London Director Michael Benson; curator and photography historian Pauline Vermare; Magnum London Gallery Director Nicolas Smirnoff; FOAM Head of Exhibitions Claartje van Dijk; diChroma Photography Director Anne Morin; Lecturer and Director of London College of Fashion and Photographer Paul Bevan; Correspondent for The Art Newspaper Tom Seymour; and Film Director and Screenwriter Tolga Karaçelik.
Entrants to the competition will gain prestige and international exposure. The competition welcomes work from professional and amateur photographers of all ages and nationalities, taken on any camera. Photos from any time, place and context are accepted. The jury will announce a shortlist of submissions on September 22nd, 2021 and the overall winner will be announced on October 1st, 2021.
