Founded to counteract the structural discrimination of women* visual artists in exhibitions and on the art market, the Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt has been running since 1989. Aiming to promote women who pursue their career as freelance artists, the project helps them gain further practical knowledge and creates a public arena for their work. The programme is tailored specifically to meet the objectives of the participants. The course combines practical tasks with insights into the art world, presentation techniques and communication strategies. The seminars are led by experienced art historians/producers. Guests include curators, gallery owners, artists and other experts. With more than 400 Alumnae and an ever-growing network, Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt offers a profound basis.
The project runs for 12 months, from the end of January until December. Participation in the project is required on a weekly basis, plus the addition of three to four intensive weeks. The course aims to provide analysis of the participant’s current position and aims of artistic practice, training in verbal and work presentation, help with self-employment, planning and realisation of a personal website and catalogue brochure, as well as excursions, seminars, discussions and networking within the Berlin art scene. A final group exhibition will take place in the autumn.
Applications are welcome from women visual artists of any age and working in any discipline. A completed arts degree, or equivalent qualification, is preferable. Sufficient German language skills are needed to follow discussions, while contributions may be made in English. Applicants should have experience in artistic practice, specific goals and great motivation. Participants will develop skills in communication and marketing while also working in the studio.
To be considered for participation in the course, a written application must be submitted online. The application must contain a completed application form, a CV listing previous education, exhibitions, projects and grants, a motivational letter, a brief artist statement, and a portfolio of artistic work, film material and catalogues. Applications should be sent to bewerbung@goldrausch.org.
*including those who identify as non-binary, agender or queergender, as well as women with trans biographies.
