The C/O Berlin Talent Award recognizes outstanding work in both photographic practice and theory. It is awarded annually to the categories of artist and theorist, with the shared prize money of €10,000. Since 2006, more than 80 talents have presented their work to a wider audience through exhibitions and publications, including the artists Karolina Wojtas, Anna Ehrenstein, Stefanie Moshammer, and Tobias Zielony as well as the photo theorists Emmanuel Iduma, Florian Ebner, Katja Müller-Helle and Steffen Siegel.
While the selection process for artists has already been completed, photo theorists up to 35 years old can apply for this open call with two already published text samples. C/O Berlin will select a winner from the submissions in collaboration with experts from the field of photo-theoretical and photo-historical journalism.
C/O Berlin produces a solo exhibition with the award-winning artist and a publication with Spector Books to accompany it. The task of the theorist will be to write an essay on the selected artwork and to conduct an interview with the artist, both of which will appear in the book.
The winning project of the artist category is located in the field of artistic research and visual archives and deals with themes of anthropology and sociality as well as the relationship between human and nature. The submitted texts should deal with current photography in a broader context and thematically relate to the winning project. Texts can be submitted in either German or English.
