Eufonia presents Sub_Bar Academy, a series of events that brings together deaf, hard of hearing and hearing people to experience music through vibration. This year they are launching an open call for hearing-impaired and deaf people, between 18–45 years old, to join the Sub_Bar Academy in Berlin from January until February 2024. Over the course of six weeks, five participants are invited to experiment in “a playground for subfrequencies and haptic art” and will have access to various instruments, technologies and softwares. No previous experience or knowledge in music or art is required from applicants.
The course includes a mix of residencies, workshops and the study of theory and practice. Over the six weeks, participants will have the opportunity to create and perform music both individually and in groups with sub-frequencies. At the end of the program, all participants will be invited to create their own piece, which will be performed in a group show in Berlin. Selected participants will receive an allowance and equipment with a total value of 1,000 Euros. Interpretation in German sign language will be also provided during the workshops.
Applicants for Sub_Bar Academy should submit both a letter of motivation (maximum two pages or a video up to 10 minutes) and personal information (name, age and contact information, including email address and phone number) to applications@subbar.net. Selected applicants will be invited for an first interview, followed by the final confirmation of applications to be announced on October 31, 2023.
