Berlin’s newly reopened restaurant Eierhäuschen stands between the river Spree and the protected landscape of Plänterwald. Next door, the former Kulturpark Plänterwald, an amusement park founded in 1969, still dazzles with its carousels and stalls under the name Spreepark. Within Eierhäuschen, Spreepark Art Space focuses on artistic exploration of this urban area, offering exhibitions, open-air installations and educational programs that delve into the relationships between people, art and nature.
Above its exhibition spaces and offices, four apartments with adjoining studios, as well as a spacious common room and communal kitchen, have been created for artists. Starting in spring 2024, this new artist residency awaits its first guests for approximately three months at a time. In addition to free accommodation, residents will be provided a fixed financial contribution to the living costs and reimbursement of travel costs.
Collectives that explore the connection between art and nature with sustainability in mind and do not yet live in Berlin are invited to apply. Particularly welcome are groups that include various disciplines, such as architecture and science. As there is no existing infrastructure for hosting children, alternative solutions for their accommodation will be considered individually. Applicants from non-European countries will receive assistance in arranging entry visas for the duration of their stay. Spreepark Art Space also welcomes people with impairments or disabilities. In each case, a safe space for individual consideration of special requirements will be offered. The residency can, but does not have to, result in an exhibition.
Interested artist collectives need to send a one-page motivational letter in English or German, answering the key questions (who, what, why and how) and stating their preferred time frame in the following year (April 8–June 21, July 1–September 20 or September 30–December 13, 2024). In addition, a collective or individual Curriculum Vitae(s) with pictures and/or video links (not exceeding 10 files and 10 MB in size) should be included. The complete application should be sent in one PDF file to residencies(at)spreepark-artspace.berlin.
