Open Call for GlogauAIR Artist Residencies

Jan. 23, 2024

GlogauAIR is a non-profit art space and residency created in 2006 by Chema Alvargonzalez and nowadays supported by Memoria Artística Chema Alvargonzalez, in Kreuzberg, Berlin. The residency is located in a historic, modernist-style building that was originally designed to be a school. The building was one of the first projects erected by architect Ludwig Hoffmann in 1896, during his time as the Building Advisor of Berlin.

Activities take place in Chema’s former studio building in Berlin Kreuzberg. The word GlogauAIR comes from the phonetic combination of GlogauerStrasse; the name of the street where it is located, and its purpose; an Artist in Residence program where artists can develop their own journey in the city of Berlin; a pioneering metropolis for contemporary global culture.

During the residency at GlogauAIR in Berlin, 13 international artists, with diverse social and geographical backgrounds, receive curatorial support, technical support and develop their work in a dynamic community. At the same time, they get to know a new culture and landscape, gaining influences from Berlin.

Each artist occupies one studio at GlogauAIR, having the opportunity to completely immerse themselves in a creative process, as well as share ideas and opinions with the other artists-in-residence.

Residencies take place for three or six months and require an Accommodation Fee of 650€ /month, as well as a Program and Technical Support Fee of €1500/quarter.

GlogauAIR’s Online Program is open to all nationalities and art disciplines. Thanks to this program we look forward to bring artists together online to discuss, work, collaborate, be engaged and inspired. Through the online program, the artist has the opportunity to receive curatorial support, regular group meetings, talks by experts, and workshops, from their homes or personal studios located anywhere in the world.

The online program is for artists who aren’t able to travel and is more flexible to allow artists to continue to live and work in their existing setting while still experiencing international exchange and professional support. The program includes curatorial support and mentoring sessions, regular group meetings, talks by experts and workshops.
