Open Call for Spatial Practitioners A-I-R Luckenwalde

Feb. 26, 2025

The Architecture-in-Residency (A-I-R) program in Luckenwalde, Brandenburg, brings together young community members, architects and practitioners to enable participation in sustainable urban development through collaborative design and construction. A-I-R e.V. is a long-term initiative that democratizes access to architecture and explores anti-speculative urban practices. Each year, the program supports an emerging architect or collective in reactivating unused buildings or vacant lots in Luckenwalde—engaging young community members from planning to construction.

This year’s residency explores how small but impactful public space interventions can be realized with limited resources. Participants will activate vacant urban spaces through artistic, social and architectural experiments that leave a lasting imprint on the city. During the research phase, residents will explore urban appropriation, case studies and the specific needs of Luckenwalde, with a focus on children and youth. The practical phase will take place over three Fridays in June, developing and testing urban interventions in workshops. The final action weekend on June 26th-29th will involve the implementation and public presentation of the interventions.

Participants receive a fixed stipend of €2,500 (per collective, not per person), up to €250 for additional materials (recycled materials available) and coverage of travel costs (Deutschlandticket) and accommodation during the final weekend.
