Fiera Milano has just opened the 29th edition of miart, the international modern and contemporary art fair, taking place from April 4th to 6th, 2025 at Allianz MiCo in Milan. Under the artistic direction of Nicola Ricciardi and a refreshed team of curators and professionals, miart 2025 is centered around the theme of friendship, viewed as an equal, lasting and truly supportive bond. With this in mind, the fair’s title, ‘among friends,’ is inspired by the final retrospective dedicated to Robert Rauschenberg, whom the fair honors on the 100th anniversary of his birth. At the opening of miart, Ricciardi emphasized the role of the curators in this year’s fair, who succeeded at presenting the booths with a high level of cohesion, as if they were curated installations in a museum show.

At the entry of the fair, highlighting the central role played by a new generation of
gallerists within the art system, the ‘Emergent’ section—curated by Attilia
Fattori Franchini—presents 25 galleries offering insights into experimental contemporary practices. Another highlight was the ‘Portal’ section, curated by Alessio Antoniolli, who showcased 10 galleries with 10 projects that invite us to question our understanding of fixed geographies, languages and temporalities. At the opening, Antoniolli noted that he wanted to “think of reality as not one linear point of view, but a very eclectic collection of different positions informed by the context, informed by the background of different people.” He wanted to “stay in a situation where conviviality, where ideas of collaboration but also harmony come from understanding that we all come together with our own reality.” In this spirit of community and collaboration, miart has also launched a conversation series called ‘talks among friends,’ which will continue beyond the fair, in collaboration with major Italian institutions like Fondazione Prada and Pirelli Hangar Bicocca.
