Giulio Delvè at Supportico Lopez 2012, exhibition view
Upon entering the gallery one is confronted with a collection of what appear to be scrappy materials, elements and varying techniques, only to realize after a while that Azione meccanica is exactly that: a collection of elements.
Giulio Delvè presents fragments of his life, his reality and his approach to understanding the world. Elements with political connotations, symbols of Delvè’s personal and family life, as well as undefined objects, invite us to connect the dots and trace the artist’s line of thought.
The gallery space is divided in two. The first half holds all the exhibits, the second half is empty; a place to view the exhibits from a distance giving the viewer the opportunity to figure out the connections between them.
The artist (born in Naples in 1984) plays with the physicality of each material and creates a space that combines characteristics of an artistic studio – exhibiting work in progress- with small hints of a cabinet of curiosities – items collected, found or brought to him waiting to be figured out.
