Michelle Jezierski – “REMAINING” (2012), collage, 40 x 46 cm
Frankfurt’s Galerie Lorenz will be exhibiting Berlin-based painter Michelle Jezierski’s paintings and collages. Her works play with overlapping realities, with light and its effect on perception. She creates and manipulates visual space, both pictorially and metaphorically – the concept of interference the exhibition title refers to. Rejecting the strictures of narration, the images are at once surreal and strangely representational. Despite the fictional appearance of her landscapes, she works from her own photographs, progressively abstracting from the original image to create the effect of dissolving reality.
Michelle Jezierski was born in Berlin, in 1981, to American parents, both classical musicians. She studied at the Universität der Künste (University of the Arts) in Berlin under sculptor Tony Cragg, to whose influence she attributes her fascination with spatial manipulation. Her work has been exhibited internationally. „Interferences“ is her second exhibition with Galerie Lorenz.
