If you were near Bahnhof Friedrichstraße last Wednesday, you may have seen an explosion coming from the roof of a building. However, don’t panic! It wasn’t a terrorist attack! It was the second intervention from artists Andreas Greiner and Fabian Knecht from their series ENTLADUNG.
Culminating in the form of rigorously planned and executed explosions in the heart of Berlin, Andreas Greiner and Fabian Knecht consciously position themselves in a politically volatile place. They comment on the daily reality of heightened suspicious attitudes (due in part to the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks) and capitalize on an “aesthetic of terror” in their work.
For Greiner and Knecht, the element of surprise is important in the each of the performances so that every event feels like an authentic strike. This second intervention continues on from their first “attack”, which took place on the grounds of the disused Tempelhof airport on June 1st, 2012.
