The second edition of Art Basel | Hong Kong will open on May 14th, showing over 171 modern and contemporary art galleries from around the world. Over half the galleries presenting are from Asia and the Asia-Pacific region, with 24 galleries from Hong Kong alone. Art Basel | Hong Kong will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and will be comprised of six show sectors: Galleries, Insights, Discoveries, Encounters, Magazines, and Film.

The special event scheduled for this year’s show is an audio-visual installation created by Berlin-based artist Carsten Nicolai. The piece α (alpha) pulse generates a light pattern that will pulsate in a synchronized frequency, every night during the festival, across the entire façade of Hong Kong’s iconic 490 meter high International Commerce Centre (ICC) on the Kowloon harbour front. The installation is accompanied with a mobile phone app, designed by Nicolai, that allows the audience to participate in the piece.
For the first time, the show will include a Film sector, curated by Li Zhenhua and hosted in collaboration with the Hong Kong Arts Centre.
In addition to the varied exhibitors, Art Basel | Hong Kong and Absolut will host a morning program of talks and panel discussions called Conversations, and an afternoon Salon series.
