This Wednesday, May 13th, at 9pm ON/OFF, a “young network of designers, architects, curators, filmmakers and urbanists”, will be broadcasting an interview with Lukasz Lendzinski and Peter Weigand of Stuttgart-based artistic/architectural practice Umschichten at the Collegium Hungaricum Berlin. The project, titled Conference Call, is the 6th interview of its kind and will be available to the public via three different platforms: in person at the theater, projected outside on to the facade of CHB, and online.
Since 2007, Lendzinski and Weigand have been blurring the line between art and architecture and redefining the way both are approached in theory and practice. The duo view architecture not as something definite or concrete, but rather as a temporal step in the ongoing cycle between “appearance and disappearance”. Along those lines, Umschichten’s past projects have included Church of Beer, a so-called “building performance” at Roskilde Festival in Denmark, in which artists used discarded beer cans from the festival grounds to create a sprawling, architectural organism, as well as Wedding, in which the artists questioned the status of monuments and how we interact with them by playfully staging a wedding scenario to a monumental figure in Krakow.
Past Conference Calls have included online interviews with Orizzontale, a Rome-based architecture collective focused on DIY architecture for common spaces, Gang of Six, an architectural “design & make” collective based in Berlin, Brighton, Bristol, Copenhagen, and London, and Collective Disaster, a group exploring new and collaborative ways out of disasters. This month’s Conference Call is sure to be just as compelling, offering an innovative and accessible approach to circulating a dialogue about where art and architecture are headed.
Be sure to tune in to the live web broadcast or head over to CHB to see the conference call for yourself!
