Five & Dime is a new online store for artist limited editions and multiples, brought to you via online exhibitions, responding to a modern era of art circulation and a new generation of art collectors. Offering a carefully curated selection of works, from prints and photographs to silk scarves and furniture, Berlin-based co-founders, Barbara Jenner and Stephanie Comilang, aim to reach a wide audience beyond the dealer-gallery art world. Their democratic approach to art-buying will see museum quality works from major and emerging cutting-edge artists, at a range of price points. With an emphasis on accessibility and quality, Five & Dime aims to appeal to practiced art collectors and a new young generation of art lovers, alike.
The store launches tomorrow with the first of their conceptual events, an online exhibition Spätkauf, featuring German photographer Andreas Mühe and American painter Ryan McLaughlin. Taking different approaches, both artists have created work tied to the theme of Berlin’s ubiquitous late night convenience stores. McLaughlin’s edition references familiar Spätkauf signage, contrastingly rendered in a refined monochrome embossed print, while Mühe’s photographic work harnesses the spirit of a late night (or early morning) adventure.
Celebrate the Five & Dime store launch at Berlin’s famed fetish KitKat Club tomorrow night (September 16th), with a party hosted by Peaches and featuring DJs Lotic, Mr. Silla, and DJ Your Body. The party starts at 10pm and entry is 8 euro.
