ARCO Madrid celebrates its 35th anniversary this year with a selection of exciting local and international galleries. Over 200 galleries from 27 countries will show at this year’s art fair. Berlin Art Link has made of selection of five must-see booths.

Galerie CRONE // Berlin

At this year’s ARCOmadrid, Galerie CRONE presents two booths with young contemporary art from Cuba. Gallerist Markus Peichl and curator Tereza de Arruda have selected seven positions that represent the rapid transformation of the Caribbean nation since its opening. All seven artists shown are connected on the one hand by intensively examining Cuban identity, tradition and the Communist social system and, on the other hand, by implementing the formal and aesthetic standard in their work that strongly orients itself towards the western art scene. With both ARCO booths, Galerie CRONE continues its commitment to provide a platform in Europe to young, emerging Cuban art and to promote cultural exchange between Cuba, Europe and the United States after the easing of the embargo and the resumption of diplomatic relations.

Having exhibited at ARCO since 1982, the gallery’s main booth this year features paper works by selected artists. Abstract, minimalist and conceptual works meet more painterly approaches, while some works even verge on the sculptural. The works by each artist were specifically selected for the fair.

Gallery alexander levy will present the work of four Berlin-based artists whose installations push the boundaries of art, delving into poetic considerations of architecture, science and mechanical engineering.

Spanish gallery Nogueras Blanchard represents an assortment of international artists, 12 of whom will show their works at ARCO this year. Alongside the fair, they are also presenting a solo show of Leandro Erlich‘s work at their gallery in Madrid, entitled The democracy of the symbol and other stories.
