Article by Caitlin Eyre in Berlin // Monday, Aug. 01, 2016

The world’s first global HD fine art television channel, ikonoTV, has recently launched an open call for applications for their upcoming 24-hour Art Speaks Out video program. ikonoTV offers internet and SmartTV viewers worldwide a free curated stream of art videos from a diverse range of cultures. After a hugely successful response in 2015, this year’s Art Speaks Out program will feature artist videos that relate to environmental issues. The most outstanding video work submitted will premiere during the special Art Speaks Out program and the artist will be invited to become part of the regular ikonoTV programming. The program will be broadcast worldwide for 24-hours and will also be broadcast during special screenings and events held in collaboration with partner institutions worldwide.

The open call is directed to artists working in moving image and sound whose work broadly focuses on pressing environmental issues, such as global warming, rising water levels, greenhouse gases, pollution, desertification, the extinction of flora and fauna, nuclear energy, deforestation and extreme urbanisation. Other issues relating to the topic are also welcome. In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, IkonoTV is particularly interested in artworks that illustrate how technical catastrophes are increasingly affecting the state of the natural environment.

Please note that only submissions of short videos exclusively employing moving image and sound (without added verbal narrative or text) can be considered.

The deadline for applications is Monday, August 15, 2016.
