Through September 1, 2016, any artist who has been living in Berlin for a minimum of six months is invited to apply for the Berlin Art Prize 2016. The prize will award three artists with a residency, prize money, and a trophy. All nominees will be included in a group exhibition and the Berlin Art Prize publication.
For 2016, the Berlin Art Prize has rethought the prize and exhibition format: this year there will be ten artists participating in the exhibition and catalog with three winning the prize of a trophy, prize money and a month-long residency. The first round of portfolio reviews will still take place anonymously, but, for 2016, the jury has committed to studio visits with each of the long-listed artists. From this pool, they will make a selection of circa ten artists to take part in the exhibition and catalog. This year, the prize will be awarded at the end of the exhibition.
The confirmed 2016 jury members are: Karen Archey (Curator and Art Critic), Kito Nedo (Art Critic), Emeka Ogboh (Artist), Ahmet Öğüt (Artist), Susanne M. Winterling (Artist, Professor HfG Offenbach).
The Berlin Art Prize is the only award of its kind in Berlin and is not connected to any institution. Initiated by four cultural producers and launched in 2013, it honors contemporary art from Berlin and publicly presents it to a wider audience. Unlike other awards, here the artists previous exhibition history, education, and recommendations are irrelevant. The artist is evaluated anonymously by a jury of five artists, critics and curators who only take into consideration the artistic work.

The exhibition will open on November 12, 2016 and the Berlin Art Prize 2016 will be awarded at the end of the exhibition on December 10, 2016. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
