Open Call // Artist-in-Residence in Brno

Article by Beatrix Joyce in Berlin // Thursday, Jan. 05, 2017

The Brno House of Arts is offering a residency programme for an artist and a German writer from Germany in April and May 2017. The residency, culminating in an exhibition open to the public, has been instantiated in collaboration with the Meeting Brno festival.

Artists with an interest in the German-Czech relationship—in terms of its history and remembrance, or with the intention to explore themes such as multiculturalism in society, mechanisms of radicalisation, equality or respectively difference, loss or the search for a home—are encouraged to apply. Full artistic freedom will be afforded to the artists as they are encouraged to bring their own interpretation of their chosen themes into materialisation.

The artist’s residency will take place in April and May 2017 and includes an exhibition at the Galerie 99 of the Brno House of Arts in May 2017. The teams of both the Brno House of Arts and the Meeting Brno festival will be available during the exhibition and guides for the public will be provided.

The writer’s residency will take place in May 2017 and will include the translation of the written texts into Czech. With the help of a translator, both versions will be presented together in a public lecture. The teams of both the Brno House of the Arts and the Meeting Brno festival will be available to the writer throughout the residency.

Accommodation will be provided at the Residence-Wohnung in the centre of town, close to the Brno House of Arts. The writer’s fee is €1,200, with further compensation for travel and the translation of the texts. The artist’s fee is €2000, excluding the cost of the materials, the translation of texts and travel compensation.

The deadline for applications is the 10th of January 2017. To apply, send your CV and a letter of motivation with your proposed project to info@meetingbrno.cz. Artists should also include a PDF of previous works. Find more information on meetingbrno.cz or email Luisa Divišová at info@meetingbrno.cz.
