The London Photography Diary, in collaboration with the New York Photography Diary, is seeking international entries for their sixth exhibition, on the theme of ‘gender performance’, to be presented at Carmel by the Green in East London.
The exhibition seeks to challenge the longstanding and still pervasive assumption that the qualities of ‘maleness’ or ‘femaleness’ are innate. It understands gender to be fluid and plural, with feminine and masculine norms differing across time and place.
The curators believe that images can be a powerful tool in dismantling the structures of fear and oppression that enforce the socio-cultural policing of gender. They invite international artists to submit work on the theme of gender performance, which celebrates and explores the complexities of gender. They welcome artists working across all genres of photography, including but not limited to documentary photography, narrative photography, photo-portraiture and conceptual work.
A maximum of three works may be submitted by email to editors@london-photography-diary.com.
