An energetic Henry Allsopp of Phillips de Pury presided over the Autocenter charity auction last Thursday, and managed to whip a somewhat reticent crowd into parting with close to €86 000.

For the last four days, we at Berlin Art Link have had the great pleasure of mingling amongst 61 exhibitors from 15 nations in the fantastically huge, historic space of Hangar 2 at Tempelhof Airport, soaking up the fervent atmosphere of ‘the emerging art fair’ Preview Berlin.

Polish artist Weronika Trojanska is taking part in the group show Breaking Point, curated by Überflug Berlin at Engels Café in Neukölln…Through these works Trojanska explores the origins of crisis and of wars- at how fantasy, utopia, and certain ideals can lead to horror, or, to borrow her own words “create a monster”.

This week I was lucky enough to discover the conceptual work of Romanian artist Ioana Nemes following a visit to the Jiri Svestka Gallery in Schöneberg for their summer show ‘On the Threshold’. Three large wall pieces, each a different colour but each resembling a giant tombstone, dominate the brightest of spaces at the gallery, demanding a somewhat ominous sense of intrigue…

Über Lebenskunst: The Art of Sustainable Living

One thing I like about the German language is that it demonstrates the possibility of being both logical and fun. This week much-publicized festival initiated by the German Federal Cultural Foundation in cooperation with the House of World Cultures is titled, Über Lebenskunst, which can be read and interpreted as either “About the Art of Living” or “The Art of Survival”.

Brought in from the street…MISS. TIC at the French Institute

From the pavement of the Ku’damm you can view through the French Institute’s façade-spanning windows the paintings of Miss.Tic, hanging unusually on the gallery’s interior walls. One of the rare women on the street art scene, it is somehow bizarre to view her work inside a gallery space.
